$4 DIY Shadow Box Bank

I don't even remember where I got this idea from probably Pinterest or some Youtube video. When I started looking into it I got very sad and discouraged because these can be very expensive.  But I am so excited that I managed to do it for only around $4.

Things you'll need
  • Shadow Box
    • Probably with one with a slot on the top
    • Mine is from Dollar Tree ($1)
  • LED Lights
    • Mine are from Dollar Tree ($1)
    • You will need batteries ($1)
  • Stickers
    • Mine are from the Dollar Spot at Target ($1)
    • But any stickers will do they are optional also
  • Glue
    • I used a hot glue gun because it's what I had on hand but any other glue will be okay too
  • Other Decorations
    • Customize it how ever your little heart desires, ribbons washi, tape markers, bedazzles,  literally anything
This was super easy and so fun to make! I love that it's totally customizable and how inexpensive it turned out to be.
  1. The shadow box that I bought had a quote on the glass. So if yours has that and you hate the quote go ahead and remove that. I took mine off with a box cutter blade I just like scrapped it off. Just be careful.
  2. The backing of the shadow box was an ugly picture. So go ahead and get creative with the background picture. For mine, I just cut out a square from a page I colored from those adult coloring books. Then just tape/glue that to the background part of your shadow box.
  3. Then add your new quote to your glass. I used stickers and wrote out "Cute Date Fund". But you can write it with a sharpie or paint or glitter glue anything you want. Maybe Google some quotes or make up your own.
  4. I dont know why my glass kept popping off the box part it just kept falling in so I thought I could put drops of hot glue on the corners on the inside and it'll stay and sure enough it worked. This part is optional if you dont have this problem just skip it.
  5. I thought I was done so I went to get my spare change and in that jar, I had spare twinkle lights. so I got the brilliant idea to add those in my shadow box. All you do is glue them around the edges on the inside of the shadow box like on the glass, not the part where your picture is. Since the string on the lights is very thin it's very easy to just leave the on and off switch out.
  6. I went ahead and glued it to the back of the shadow box but you can just leave it hanging out.
  7.  Then just put the shadow box back together and it's done. So you can start saving. And you end up with really cute home decor also.
  8. (Optional) Paint the box, add stickers, add bedazzles, washi tape, glitter, anything.
This post was miserable to get right I hate the layout I hate how it turned out but the DIY was so fun I couldn't not post it. But I hope you enjoyed it. These Shadow box banks can turn out so expensive because the shadow boxes I found are really hard to find. I kept finding like $15 ones or the ones I did find didn't have the slot on the top and overall they were over priced. But I love this DIY I created and it was way cheaper to create it and it was a lot of fun to put it all together. Comment if you decide to try this DIY.
