Moving Checklist

My moving day is actually sooner than planned! It's sort of my fault. I kept looking back at the apartments available at our new apartment place and the prices went down from when we were first looking and they are doing tons of improvements. They have options with bigger back yards and new appliances for a less than what we originally picked out. So we ended up with a picking a place with a bigger back yard for the sake of our pup instead of a 2 story townhouse. But I love the new layout way better. But now I'm a little bit stressed about getting everything done sooner. The great thing though is that we get our keys the 7th but we don't have to move out of our current place until the 29th so I have more time for that. Now I feel like I have plenty of time to take a day to clean up that place really good before bringing all our stuff. Then moving everything out and coming back to this place to make sure it's nice and tidy for our final check.

Things I'm rushing to get done right now.

Final Moving Checklist

  1. Call to transfer all services.
    • Internet
    • Gas
    • Insurance
    • Electricity
    • Nothing sucks more than living in a new place with no hot water for a week. Also be sure to be kind to those people answering your calls. You may have 100 calls to make and be frustrated but they are just trying to help and they probably get a lot of mean people so just be nice they'll be kind if you are kind.
  2. Call places to get your mail to the right place.
    • Bank
    • Store cards
    • Car Loan
  3. Go to the post office to make sure you get ALL your mail.
    • I'm still getting mail at our first place and we haven't lived there for like 10months. Good thing a friend of ours moved into our exact apartment.
    • They have a fun paper you fill out to make sure anything with your name gets sent to your new place.
  4. Start cleaning up carpet stains or broken things.
    • Our apartments come with maintenance so major broken things have been taken care of.
  5. Packing up all the small things/EVERYTHING.
    • I have like 20 packed boxed but there's still so much left!!
  6. Call your guy with a truck to come HELP!!
    • Don't forget to pay them in food and beer or some cash!!
  7. Do Laundry!
    • That way everything is nice and clean and fresh at your new place.
    • Wash clothes
    • Wash Bed Sheets
    • Wash Curtains
    • Everything
  8. Get rid of old food in the fridge.
    • Hopefully, this is already done and you keep up with that but if not do it now! You don't want yucky expired food in your new fridge.
  9. Don't buy groceries.
    • That's just more things you'll have to move!
  10. Don't forget to sign your lease and pick up your keys!
    • Give 60-day notice to your old apartments if you need to! They usually ask so they know if you will renew their lease or will be moving out.
I think that's it for now! Wish me luck moving that it all goes smoothly and nothing breaks! I love moving but it can be a little stressful. I've been on hold with my renter's insurance for 30min and it took me 3 transfers to get my electric transferred. Also all these fees so far its about $60 of fees for connecting my services.  I forgot about the fees! It's not even noon yet and I need a nap already. But don't forget to subscribe and share my blog. Comment if you love/hate moving.
